Driven Towards Sisterhood

Driven Towards Sisterhood (DTS) is a multi-cultural club on campus dedicated to empowering Cal Poly's women and celebrating their cultures and womanhood.

Founded in 2008, Driven Towards Sisterhood was originially a cultural club focused on Black women on campus.  The club--although mostly social--was a place for the Black women on campus to bond with one another in the hopes of integrating their different background and traditions into one common theme: Sisterhood.

Between the philanthropic projects, cultural performances, and socials, DTS was the perfect place for Black women to learn about each, try to reverse stereotypes, and hopefully eventually become associated with a national black sorority of the members' choosing.

My past position: Vice President

As Vice President, my job was to advise the President in issues regarding the club, as well as input ideas and solutions for the benefit of the club.

As Vice President, I also oversaw the different committees that helped to keep the club going, such as Philanthrophy, Archives, and Media, to name a few.

Now, as the club changes leadership roles, the members hope to contribute to the club by formally allowing other women of various cultures and backgrounds to join them in the celebration of women and their cultures.

By allowing these various other women to join the original members, the club hopes to share the Black cultures with other women, and vice versa.  As well, the members hope to learn more about other women, by incorporating their backgrounds into events, socials, and the all-around vibe of the club.
